I am a pharmacy intern who will be doing a drug use evaluation on IV Alfacalcidol used in our hemodialysis unit. What form of Vitamin D analogues are commonly prescribed in your hemodialysis clients ie. oral or IV or a combination?
In our centre, we see usage of both IV, oral or a combination of IV/oral. Due to significant cost differences, we would like to review the potential cost savings and advantages of IV versus oral.
We are interested in an environmental scan to support this quality improvement initiative. Any thoughts or discussion would be appreciated.
With kind regards,
Josh Nurkowski, Pharmacy Intern
