Hello,
Is anyone using Monoferric (iron isomaltoside) 1500 mg IV as a single dose? Over the past year we have been giving Monoferric as 500 mg IV doses and 1000 mg IV doses to our outpatients. We were hesitant to administer 1500 mg IV as a single dose because there doesn’t seem to be as much safety data. We are now considering giving 1500 mg IV as a single dose of minimize the number of outpatient visits for infusion.
What are you doing at your center?
Thanks!
Alison
Hi Alison,
Manitoba Renal Program decided to avoid the 1500 mg dose on our preprinted orders. We surveyed renal pharms across Canada and no one seems to be giving the higher dose as of yet, even in non-renal patients. This dose was not given in the published CKD trials. Also the 2 ongoing US trials (FERWON-2 CKD and FERWON-3 IDA/CKD) use a single dose of 1000 mg.
However, can certainly understand wanting to limit outpatient visits in light of COVID-19.

Hi
We use 1500 mg doses on occasion particularly for larger patients requiring more iron. No reactions thus far.
