We use EMLA cream as first choice topical anesthetic for needling and move to Ametop if EMLA is ineffective or felt to be causing skin irritation. Ametop is unavailable currently. I’ve found little information for using Maxilene4 to anesthetize needling sites. If anyone has experience with using this, I’d appreciate comments, especially for timing of application, relative risk of skin irritation compared to EMLA, or anything else pertinent.
